$100M State Aquatic Centre Begins

Preliminary site work will get underway at Marion today, in preparation for major construction of the States brand new Aquatic Centre and GP Plus Health Care Centre.
 
Sports Minister Wright said, I'm pleased to announce the Planning Minister has this week granted consent for the projects.
 
This means the construction of one of the most technically advanced competition and training venues in the Southern Hemisphere is now imminent.
This facility will see Adelaide recognised as Australian swimmings latest destination and also puts us on the world map where aquatic sports are concerned its a hugely exciting project.
 
The State Aquatic Centre will include:
1 main 50-metre pool comprising of ten lanes, 3-metre depth with a boom.
1 Diving/Water Polo pool of 55 metres with a boom to enable multiple use
4,500 seating capacity
Leisure water of 10002m including a learn to swim pool
 
The concept images and plans Ive seen for this project are very impressive and certainly world class. Well soon be seeing a fantastic new sport and health hub for South Australians and that sends a strong message that were continuing to defy the global downturn and our State remains open for business, Minister Wright said.
 
The GP Plus Health Care Centre will have general practioners; allied health professionals, dentists and community health staff working together under one roof.
 
Another focus of the GP Plus Centre will be helping people to manage chronic disease and to stay healthy and out of hospital.
 
The new Marion GP Plus Health Care Centre will offer a wide range of health services including:
Dental services for adults and children
Health and counselling services for young people
Early childhood development services, including speech pathology and occupational therapy
Assessment, education and counselling services, including self-management programs for people with chronic conditions.
Health services for older people
Medical specialist services
 
The State Aquatic Centre and GP Plus Health Care Centre has been funded by the Federal and State Governments and local council to the value of just over $100 million.
 
Completion of the precinct is expected by mid to late 2010.
